Which tooth crowns are better – ceramic-metal or metal-free?

Ceramic-metal tooth crown
A ceramic-metal dental crown is a denture made by a dental technician in a dental laboratory according to preliminary casts of a dentist. In simple words – this is a metal cap made of cobalt-chrome, nickel-titanium or gold-palladium alloys, on which ceramic mass of different shades is applied layer by layer and baked in a special oven.

A ceramic-metal tooth crown, as we believe, is yesterday.

Firstly, the production time of such a crown is 7-14 days;
Secondly, over time, a “mourning border” appears in the black gingival margin; it does not look particularly beautiful on the front teeth;
Thirdly, frequent chips of ceramics from a metal cap.
The manufacturing cost in the range from 1000 to 20,000 UAH. The price depends on the manufacturer of the ceramic material, the alloy for the manufacture of the cap and, of course, the professionalism of the dental technician.

Metal free tooth crown
Metal-free dental crown – this type of ceramic dental crowns is interesting because there is no metal and the crown itself in its aesthetic parameters repeats an exact copy of its natural tooth.

The stages of manufacturing such a crown are similar to the previous ones, only ceramics are pressed in layers by a technician and sintered also in a furnace.

Of the minuses of ceramic dental crowns, perhaps, it’s only that they are used mainly on the front teeth, since they cannot bear the large load that is needed on chewing teeth. But, with the advent of CAD / CAM systems, it is a shorthand for Computer-Aided Design (design using computer technology) and Computer-Aided Manufacture (manufacture using computer technology) metal-free dental crowns have become much easier to produce. And this is the best way to make dental crowns today.

The patient can observe the entire process of manufacturing a dental crown. After processing the tooth under the tooth crown, the doctor scans the oral cavity with a special camera and transfers the image to a computer to simulate a new ceramic tooth. The next step is milling and subsequent cementing of the finished work on the tooth.

We can offer non-metal dental crowns made of aluminum oxide, feldspar – these are ceramic crowns that are made in one visit using special milling equipment.

Indirect restorations on the posterior teeth can be made from feldspar for those patients who have pathological abrasion. The advantage is that the hardness of the material is almost the same as that of the enamel of the native tooth, and it is very important that antagonists do not wear out the teeth.

Benefits:
accuracy,
color rendering
aesthetics,
manufacturing speed
service life (from 5 years).
The cost ranges from 7,000 to 20,000 UAH., Depending on the manufacturer of the material.

Zirconia Tooth Crowns
Such crowns can be made with whole anatomical or caps for applying presceramics. This type of dental crown meets the aesthetic requirements of the patient, is completely non-toxic and inert to the surrounding tissues of the tooth. It withstands loads exceeding more than 10 times the load on the strength of ceramic-metal crowns.

From zirconium oxide, crowns can be made on both front and side teeth. You can make dental crowns, half crowns, veneers, lumineers, pins, bridges and other prostheses.

The service life of such dental crowns is more than 10 years. Cost in the range from 5000 to 25000 UAH.

In the manufacture of indirect restorations from feldspar, zirconia or alumina, we get accurate work and when cementing it onto a tooth, the patient does not clog the food on the contacts between the teeth due to the leaking contact of the indirect restoration and the adjacent tooth. This is also important.

Summarize
CAD / CAM-system allows us to produce dental crowns quickly and efficiently. Thanks to this system, we refused to manufacture ceramic-metal dental crowns, thereby giving our patients an aesthetic healthy smile.
